The Ellen MacArthur Foundation has today launched the Circular Economy 100 (‘CE100’), a three year programme aimed at bringing together a network of 100 leading companies globally to facilitate development and commitment to new circular economy projects. The CE100 will provide executive education on key themes and emerging trends, share knowledge and new learnings, and identify and develop solutions to common challenges. The objective is that by 2015 participating companies will have triggered circular initiatives that will result in an aggregated economic benefit of $10bn for the businesses involved.

Het Cradle to Cradle Network (C2CN) is een Europees INTERREG IVC-project waarin tien Europese regio’s, van de UK tot Roemenië en van Italië tot Finland, op zoek gaan naar succesvolle praktijkcases van Cradle to Cradle. De OVAM participeerde als Vlaamse partner in dit project. Samen onderzochten we hoe praktijken die op een bepaalde plaats werken, ook in een andere context kunnen toegepast worden. Die bestaande praktijken hoeven zelfs niet de volle honderd procent cradle to cradle te zijn, als ze maar het potentieel hebben om ervan te leren. De partners brachten zo samen een gezamenlijk en open innovatieproces op gang om de cradle to cradle-principes steeds meer én verder realiseerbaar te maken.

Koninklijke Auping bv en afvaldienstverlener en grondstoffenleverancier Van Gansewinkel hebben samen een retoursysteem voor matrassen ontwikkeld, het ‘Auping Take Back System’. Oude matrassen kunnen worden ingeleverd en dienen als grondstof voor nieuwe producten. Hiermee zetten de partijen de eerste stap richting een Cradle to Cradle-principe voor matrassen (C2CÃ??).

Interwand, fabrikant van flexibele wandsystemen, heeft voor hun Intersmart scheidingswand de prestigieuze Cradle to Cradle certificering gekregen. Cradle to Cradle wil zeggen dat alle gebruikte materialen na hun gebruik in het ene product, nuttig kunnen worden ingezet in een ander product. Hierbij zou geen kwaliteitsverlies mogen ontstaan en alle restproducten moeten hergebruikt kunnen worden of milieuneutraal zijn. Interwand heeft met de certificering een wereldprimeur te pakken. Niet eerder kreeg een scheidingswand deze certificering.
