available for comments. The draft report was prepared by the “Consumer
Protection in the Global Market” Working Group of COPOLCO, the Consumer
Policy Committee of ISO (the International Organization for
Standardization).

The CSR and Standards Forum was created in August, 2001, following the May, 2001 meeting of ISO COPOLCO (Consumer Policy Committee) in Oslo, Norway.
The purpose of the Forum is to facilitate worldwide discussion of the
possible role of standards (i.e., standards developed through the formal
standards system, at the national and international level) to articulate and promote the concept of corporate social responsibility. The Forum is designed to provide a mechanism for increasing awareness and promoting constructive discussion of new and existing corporate social responsibility initiatives (be they developed through the standards systems or not), and their relevance to existing or potential standards projects. It is recognized that widespread private sector adherence to corporate social responsibility criteria is likely to be the result of a combination of approaches, including inter-governmental agreements, domestic legislative and regulatory techniques, standards developed through the formal standards system, voluntary codes, and education/information approaches.

De Provincie Limburg heeft vorige week de ‘BIM’-prijs gewonnen voor een project dat BedrijfsInterne Milieuzorg koppelt aan vergunningverlening. De Limburgse milieugedeputeerde Margot Hofman-Ruijters heeft deze prijs in ontvangst genomen tijdens de 8e Nationale Milieuzorgdag in Ede.
Het prijswinnende project heet ‘Samen op weg naar ISO 14001 / Vergunnning op Maat’. De jaarlijkse prijs is een initiatief van Milieu Magazine, vakblad voor milieumanagement.
De Provincie Limburg heeft dit project uitgevoerd met tien industriële
bedrijven uit verschillende branches en met diverse overheden (gemeenten en
water-schappen). Het project wordt in opdracht van de Provincie Limburg
begeleid door BMA Advies.

Onlangs heeft het Limperg Instituut het studierapport “De kwaliteit van milieu-informatie: In hoeverre is ISO 14001 toereikend?” gepubliceerd. Het onderzoek is, in samenwerking met het Wetenschappelijk Instituut voor Milieu-Management, uitgevoerd door Nancy Kamp-Roelands en Jan Jaap Bouma. In het rapport wordt een studie naar de kwaliteit van milieu-informatieverzorging beschreven.
Uit het onderzoek is gebleken dat er in ISO 14001 onvoldoende aandacht wordt geschonken aan de administratieve organisatie en interne controle ten behoeve van een kwalitatief goede milieu-informatievoorziening.
