The Internet has had a great impact on how companies communicate with their stakeholders. Companies now have the means to be more transparent than ever before, if they choose to be. And stakeholders have learned to use the Internet for coordinating campaigns aimed at changing corporate behavior.
Infonic, a London-based Internet communications consultant, has created two series of reports that examine how the Internet influences corporate agendas and the perceptions of stakeholders. These reports, entitled Reputation Impact and netAware, include much material about corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), an international sustainability reporting institution, will be formally inaugurated at a luncheon event to be held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on 4 April 2002 at 13:00. Incubating under the auspices of the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies (CERES), in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since 1997, the invitation-only event will mark the inauguration of GRI as a permanent, independent global institution.

De economische tegenwind treft ook de strijd tegen de kinderarbeid . Dat bleek gisteren bij de opening van een internationale conferentie in Scheveningen.
Behalve in de Verenigde Staten en in Europa sluiten ook bedrijven in de derde wereld hun deuren. De toenemende werkloosheid in Afrika, Azië en Zuid-Amerika brengt steeds meer ouders er toe om hun kinderen dan maar de straat op te sturen om geld te verdienen.

De komst van de Global Reporting Initiative (GRI)-organisatie naar Nederland komt erg dichtbij. Dit blijkt uit een brief aan enkele organisatie die zich hebben ingespannen hiervoor (zie onder). De GRI-organisatie is bezig zich te institutionaliseren. Men had reeds de voorkeur uitgesproken om een stad in Europa te zoeken voor de internationale hoofdvestiging. Na een langdurige selectieprocedure en lobbywerk van diverse Nederlandse organisaties, waaronder de VBDO en DHV, lijkt een keuze voor Den Haag of Amsterdam niet ver weg meer te liggen.
