About ILX Management

ILX Management B.V. (ILX) is an Amsterdam-based emerging market-focused private credit asset manager. It manages two Funds with €1.7 billion of commitments by Dutch and Danish institutional investors which invest in loan participations originated and structured by Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and Development Finance Institutions (DFI).

ILX vision and mission is to create large-scale investment opportunities in global development finance that contribute to sustainable development across emerging markets, safeguarding ESG risks and supporting the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement goals.

The Sustainability functions within the company play a critical role in supporting investments to enable private companies in emerging markets to grow sustainably, create decent jobs, and transition to a low-carbon global economy.

The team & your role

The Sustainability Officer is part of ILX’s Investment Team, which is responsible for investment selection, appraisal and portfolio management. The investment team manages a portfolio of roughly 70 projects across a wide range of geographies and sectors including energy, infrastructure, transportation, telecommunications, manufacturing, financial institutions and agriculture.

You will report directly to the Head of Sustainability. The role is integral to achieving ILX’s business objectives which comprise upholding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) safeguards and delivering measurable impact. Concretely, this involves supporting the Investment Team during the due diligence and monitoring phases by identifying key ESG risks, assessing mitigation strategies, and ensuring alignment with the Fund’s Theory of Change and impact goals.

Next to this, developing and refining methodological guidelines, collecting, managing and reporting sustainability data to a diverse set of stakeholders, creating and implementing policies, procedures, & best practices and complying with EU Sustainable Finance regulations. Through these efforts, ensuring ILX investments are aligned with its broader sustainability and impact objectives.

More specifically your responsibilities will compose of:

New investments

  • Appraising higher risk environmental including climate, social and corporate governance aspects of the funds’ investments.
  • Coaching and guiding other members of the investment team in the appraisal of lower risk investments.
  • Assessing expected positive impacts against the manager’s theory of change and fund participants’ criteria.
  • Liaising closely with the MDBs and DFIs to fully understand how potential issues identified by ILX are considered by the DFI’s E&S, Climate and Impact teams.

Portfolio Management

  • Safeguarding portfolio quality by overseeing investments Impact, Climate, and ESG performance, including incident management.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Contributing to strengthening the sustainability of data management, governance, and reporting systems.
  • Leading the development of new methodologies/strategies relevant for securing continued investor participation, including impact, climate and biodiversity guidelines.
  • Providing strategic input to all regulatory and voluntary sustainability reports.
