About WBCSD

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a global, CEO-led organization of over 200 leading businesses working together to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world. Our team helps make our member companies more successful and sustainable by focusing on the maximum positive impact for societies, the environment and shareholders.

Our member companies come from all business sectors and all major economies, representing combined revenues of more than USD $8.5 trillion and 19 million employees. Through our global core organization as well as our network of 50+ national business councils we provide unparalleled reach across the globe. For over 25 years, WBCSD has been uniquely positioned to work with member companies along and across value chains to deliver impactful business solutions to the most challenging sustainability issues related to climate, nature, and equity.

Together, we are the leading voice of business for sustainability: with a vision of a world where more than nine billion people are all living well and within the boundaries of our planet, by 2050.

About WBCSD’s Nature Action Imperative

Nature is a vital ingredient in ensuring healthy people, healthy business and a healthy planet. Yet it faces challenges such as mass extinction rates and pressure on land, water, oceans, climate and biodiversity to feed and house 9 billion people by 2050. WBCSD’s Nature Action program supports companies in developing credible nature strategies and including nature in corporate decision making so that by 2030, we see an acceleration of individual and collective corporate action, and increased resource allocation to solutions that halt and reverse nature loss, in line with the Biodiversity Plan.

In 2023 WBCSD launched a series of Roadmaps to Nature Positive to cut through the complexity of the nature agenda, and support companies in taking credible, impactful action on nature. These sector Roadmaps engage companies operating in the same sector (e.g., forestry, agriculture, built environment, energy, chemicals, pharma etc.) in a collaborative process with industry peers and other key stakeholders, to build a common understanding of the most material nature-related impacts and dependencies for the sector, as well as the priority actions to halt and reverse nature loss along the value chain. These actions are tied to relevant metrics and targets to help companies measure and disclosure their nature-related impacts.
