The problem of Biodiversity and nature loss is top of mind for sustainability professionals and responsible investors. In December 2022, the United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP15) ended in Montreal with a landmark agreement to guide global action on nature through to 2030. Earlier in the year, PGGM signed the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge and joined the related foundation.

As an intern at the responsible investment department, we offer you the opportunity of applying your research and sustainability skills to the biodiversity and nature loss problem and to work at one of the frontrunners in the field of responsible investment.

Specifically, you will:

  • Perform research on the agrochemicals and food sectors and write guidance notes for our investment teams. This will include analyzing the risks, negative impacts, mitigation options and opportunities in these sectors (both environmental and social).
  • Assist in the development of our positive impact framework for biodiversity and nature. This will include on desk research of novel thematic financial instruments and methodologies but also virtual and in person interviews with other asset managers.
  • Assist in the analysis of listed companies’ performance on climate mitigation and biodiversity in preparation of engagement calls.
  • Take part to and provide assistance during engagement calls between PGGM and investee companies.
  • Take part to and provide assistance during events and knowledge sharing with peers and other parties (e.g. NGO) on this topic.

Your department

The Responsible Investment team of currently 16 staffs is driving the integration of ESG impact, risk and opportunities in accordance with client policies, commitments and regulations. We evaluate the financial implications for the portfolio and measure the real-world impact of PGGM investments.
