Vopak
Do you want to make an impact in the energy transition and limiting climate change? Vopak has set itself ambitious targets to reduce its energy usage and carbon footprint and is looking for an experienced Global Sustainability Engineer that will be responsible for driving a significant energy reduction at our terminals worldwide.
About us
Royal Vopak is the world’s leading independent tank storage company. We store vital products with care. On sustainability, we are ambitious: we want to facilitate the introduction of the sustainable vital products of the future while reducing our own environmental and carbon footprint. Today, the vital products we store are chemicals, oil, gases, biofuels and edible oils. For the future, we are developing new infrastructure solutions to actively contribute to the introduction of new vital products, such as low- and zero-carbon new energies and sustainable feedstocks.
What you will be a part of
With 70+ locations in 20+ countries, Vopak has a centralized Global Operations & Technology department that supports the Divisions and Operating Companies in improving their business performance in areas such as safety, sustainability, operations, maintenance and projects. The Global Operations team is a highly motivated team with a wide range of knowledge and expertise, but we all share the same future mindset. Together we work on a safe and sustainable Vopak every day with the support of all our 6,000 colleagues, from executive board members to operators: we are all on the journey to net-zero.
You will be reporting to the Director Operations and will be working closely with colleagues from the Global Operation & Technology department and colleagues in the different Divisions and Operating Companies.
Context of the job
The availability of different types of energy and the way we consume is changing faster than ever before and while we are proud of what we do already, we want to do more. That’s why we need you! To help us come up with smart ways to decrease our energy consumption.
Energy efficiency is one of the main levers to reduce GHG emissions and therefore plays a critical role in the GHG reduction program. The program has multiple approaches to reducing energy usage and thereby GHG emissions: for example utilizing data and developing data science solutions to improve energy efficiency or switching to renewable energy where possible. A critical part of the program and one of your main priorities is improving the performance of our energy intensive assets such as pumps, compressors, boilers and vapor treatment units. A detailed assessment of those assets should result in best practices from around the world to make sure divisions are engaged on the opportunities to improve within a centrally aligned plan of action.
In this job, you will be in the lead and decide what tasks to prioritize that will have the biggest impact and most significant results to benefit the energy management program.
Your job in bullet points
- Develop and manage a portfolio of energy efficiency projects in collaboration with the Divisions and Operating Companies
- Develop an ‘energy efficiency assessment’ that can support the terminals in assessing opportunities to improve energy efficiency
- Develop business cases for energy efficiency projects and support terminals in developing investment proposals
- Ensure portfolio development and execution progress is meeting the global energy efficiency and GHG emission reduction targets
- Develop best practices, toolkits, templates, business cases etc. that will support the Divisions and Operating Companies in the development and execution of their energy reduction plans
- Monitoring Vopaks overall energy saving targets and reporting progress and deviations
- Together with the Global Engineering department develop and improve global standards to ensure the latest technology and best practices to reduce energy usage are included (e.g. vapor treatment, heating, energy efficiency etc.)
