Environmental & Social Officer Energy

Your role

In this position, you will lead the implementation of FMO’s E&S strategy. You will ensure it integrates fully into investment choices and ongoing engagement with mainly renewable Energy companies. You will collaborate with key players, tackling issues like managing environmental and social risks. Also, you will focus on natural resources, climate action, inclusive business practices, and human rights.

You will report to the Energy E&S team’s manager in the ESG+ Department. Together with officers and advisors, you will work closely, each offering unique sustainability knowledge important for FMO.

As an Environmental and Social Officer, you will be in charge of:

• Evaluating the environmental, social, and human rights impacts and risks of our investments against international standards such as the IFC Performance Standards and UN Guiding Principles.
• Collaborating with investment staff and partners to define actions necessary to meet E&S requirements.
• Assisting our clients in securing resources to address environmental, social, and human rights aspects of their operations in the Energy sector.
• Identifying capacity development opportunities and providing training on E&S issues.
• Enhancing efficiency in the investment process by promoting collaboration among lenders on ESG implementation.
• Managing portfolio E&S reporting and overseeing credible remedial actions.
• Representing our organization at technical meetings and industry events related to ESG.
• Supporting the implementation of sustainable regulations in collaboration with other impact-oriented teams within the organization.
