Highlights of NXP’s sustainability performance in 2009 include:

The strong reduction of direct Green House Gas emissions since 2004, resulting in NXP already achieving its 2010 goal
Over 70 percent of products shipped by NXP qualified as “Dark Green” (free of halogenated flame retardants)
All NXP manufacturing operations, including controlled JVs, now OHSAS18001 certified
Continued reduction of energy and water use, and in the generation of waste
The integration of corporate responsibility in NXP’s core businesses and activities through its responsible products, particularly in the areas of energy efficiency, mobile connected devices, security and health
This year’s Sustainability Report emphasizes the ways NXP’s products are helping the planet by saving energy, improving mobility, improving security, and pursuing new horizons in health. The semiconductor industry – and NXP’s High Performance Mixed Signal technologies in particular – have tremendous potential to directly address society’s dependence on fossil fuels and minimize carbon emissions. For example, NXP products are used in smart meters that help consumers save energy, as well as energy-saving lighting technologies. Further, semiconductors from NXP are used in advanced traffic management systems that reduce traffic congestion; they are enabling the shift to hybrid and electric vehicles, and are helping drivers optimize fuel efficiency. The report also highlights the many ways in which NXP employees are making a difference, with profile articles that recognize individuals and groups who have made the company’s business processes greener, improved its manufacturing methods, or donated time to community service.

“Our latest Sustainability Report describes how now more than ever, sustainability and ‘green’ issues go hand-in-hand with day-to-day business operations. It also illustrates NXP’s commitment to serving its stakeholders with excellence, integrity, and transparency,” said Rick Clemmer, president and CEO, NXP Semiconductors. “As an industry, it is our collective responsibility to take a proactive approach to creating value for consumers, the environment, and society as a whole. At NXP, we are bringing High Performance Mixed Signal solutions to market to help solve critical societal issues related to energy efficiency, connected mobile devices, security and health.”
