“We are very proud to be listed as one of the leaders in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index,” said Feike Sijbesma, chairman of DSM’s Managing Board. “It is recognition of our continuous efforts in sustainability. Our full commitment to sustainability is shown every day in our products and innovations. Sustainability is also the core value of DSM. I would like to congratulate AkzoNobel for being named this year’s leader.”

DSM innovations are helping to address some of the world’s most pressing issues such as the need for alternative energy sources and climate change, health and wellness and the need for a balanced food and water supply. DSM is committed to delivering value (social, environmental and economic) to all stakeholders and create brighter lives for people today and generations to come.

This year, DSM once again took concrete steps to actively reduce not only its own but also its customers’ carbon footprint with innovative products and processes. DSM introduced bio based performance materials for the automotive industry, a part of its materials portfolio was certified Cradle to Cradle(TM) and DSM signed a joint venture agreement with Roquette for the production, commercialization and market development of bio-based succinic acid, a green chemical building block. DSM announced a breakthrough in technology to produce second generation bio fuels that are more cost effective and can become a viable alternative to both first generation bio fuels and conventional fossil fuels.

The company also extended its partnership with the United Nations World Food Program and increased the advocacy and implementation activities to fight hidden hunger and malnutrition around the world.
