War Child

War Child is improving the wellbeing of children and youth affected by conflict. We are doing so in nine programme countries, and we raise funds in three European countries. We are part of the aid sector. Trends in the sector include several calls for changing operations: having a more diverse and inclusive workforce, safeguarding integrity, allowing for a stronger local voice and taking more care about the environment, reducing the emissions caused. War Child wants to take its responsibility and maximize the use of opportunities to improve its duty of environmental and social care. At the moment, War Child is drafting its Sustainability Policy.

About You!
You are undertaking a course relevant to the challenge of sustainability, and you are keen to develop yourself further in that direction. You bring a strong interest to the challenge for a mid-sized international NGO and are particularly interested in how to communicate policy and strategy, internally as well as externally. You have a keen eye on what works in communication and can do the groundwork for that. You are a team player and eager to learn.

The Challenge
War Child is advancing in policy and strategy development regarding sustainability and in each of its offices. We calculate our footprint annually, we take measures and we are drafting a comprehensive Sustainability Policy. There is work to be done in the communication around all this, internally (engagement) as well as externally (the marketing of our climate neutrality). As an intern in this role you would concentrate on that. You support the Senior Advisor Organizational Development to advance on this, so that we can accelerate a more sustainable course of the organization together with dedicated colleagues.
This is a role in which you have contact with various departments and country offices, the Communications & Advocacy Team in particular. There is operational work to do, but you will also be involved in more tactical and strategic discussions. Obligations you may have in relation to your study will be discussed with you in order to ensure that the time with War Child benefits your studies and ultimately your start in the job market.

Your Responsibilities
The focus will be on sustainability and communication. Also depending on your exact background, graduation requirements and your personal interest, this may include: supporting the consultation and finalization of the Sustainability Policy, bringing its content to life, calculating the carbon footprint on 2022, gathering and publishing stories about sustainability measures throughout the thirteen offices and figuring out the metrics around those, encouraging & engaging staff.
