Rabobank
Are you passionate about driving impact in creating a more sustainable food system?Do you have broad expertise of internationally diverse farming systems? Are you energized by taking a practical approach in turning complex sustainability research questions into actionable and viable business solutions? Then Rabo Research is looking for you.
You and your job
As a senior agriculture sustainability business analyst, you will work in one of the most dynamic international departments of Rabobank: RaboResearch. You know all about different farming systems, practices and processes. You are passionate about farmer engagement and have farmers’ interests and perspectives at heart. You have gained experience in farming practice and excel in pragmatic and commercial thinking & acting via roles in private agribusiness companies e.g. farm inputs companies, processing companies, cooperatives or traders. You understand how farming systems vary regionally and how changes in farming practices can differentially impact the environment at local, regional, and global scales.
Vice-versa – from a double materiality perspective – you can assess how climate change, biodiversity loss and loss of ecosystem services impact farming systems. You also understand how F&A corporates in dynamic value chains, influence and depend on farmers, and enable food system transitions. You apply a pragmatic approach to turn fact-based information into practical actionable insights for our farming and corporate agribusiness clients. You bring client-relevant opportunities and challenges for practical, holistic and economically-viable business implementations to internal stakeholders in the bank to make well-informed decisions, in line with Rabobank’s Nature Vision.
Inspirational practical examples
- Explore overlap of existing agriculture sustainability assessment frameworks with climate and nature metrics used for internal steering purposes, as well as with regulatory (reporting) requirements and certification frameworks, to support pragmatic ways of client implementation and progress;
- Identify practical effectiveness, challenges and (economic) opportunities for adoption of sustainable farming practices reducing impact on natural ecosystems and increasing food system resilience;
- Present your work to clients, and internal and external stakeholders active in various disciplines across the world, aligning their knowledge and actions.
Work and pleasure
“I really enjoy translating complex (scientific) ideas into actionable insights for our clients and the bank to make our food system more sustainable. This job gives me the freedom to develop and discuss these ideas in a multidisciplinary team.”
Frank Groenewoud, biodiversity researcher in Food Systems Research, RaboResearch.
The big picture
Growing enough food to feed 10 billion people in 2050 in a just and sustainable way is perhaps the key challenge of the 21st century. Rabobank aims to play its role in shaping this sustainable food future by engaging with clients and other stakeholders in the food system. That’s where you come in, providing important insights that are needed to help our clients to produce food and agri commodities in a way that respects ecological boundaries, complies with international commitments and regulations, and promotes global food security. You will play a key part in implementing metrics and frameworks that will enable us to assess environmental, incl. biodiversity, impacts and risks at farm-level, as well as at corporate clients active in food & agribusiness value chains.
