Do you want to work together with inspired colleagues to create a world in which nature and people thrive? And help build a ‘nature positive’ impact in biodiverse priority landscapes around the world by mobilising people to act? That is what you will do when you work at WWF Netherlands (WWF-NL).

WWF-NL is a professional and dynamic organization with an informal working culture based in Zeist, the Netherlands. The working language is English.

The organisation consists of four departments: Conservation, Engagement, Organization & Talent Development and Finance & Operations. In this light WWF-NL ’s Conservation department is looking for an Advisor, Greening Finance Netherlands Lead (40 hours).

From its origins as a small group of committed wildlife enthusiasts, WWF has grown into one of the world’s largest and most respected independent conservation organizations – supported by 5 million people and active in over 100 countries on five continents. WWF has an ambitious strategy to preserve biodiversity and achieve sustainable development across the globe.

As problems of governance, scarcity, degradation and pollution of ecosystems have spread and intensified, approaches in protecting our natural resources have diversified and have started to bring government, the public, businesses and investors together to jointly tackle some of the major impacts of economic development on natural capital.

Finance forms the foundation for our economic system, and enables all types of economic activities, with both positive and negative impacts on nature. At the same time, nature loss can result in significant financial implications, as also recently recognized by a group of 120 financial supervisors and central banks. The financial sector has, therefore, a crucial role to play in addressing the climate and biodiversity crisis. WWF has globally recognized the finance sector as a key target and WWF-NL identified two key programmatic focus strategies to (i) Finance Green, and (ii) Greening Finance in the Dutch finance industry.

WWF-NL’s Greening Finance (ii) strategy aims to encourage a meaningful shift in financial flows away from nature-negative outcomes and towards nature-positive ones by promoting integration of nature into all financial decision by Dutch financial institutions. WWF-NL aims to deliver this by encouraging leadership and best practice, as well as raising the bar through activities directed at policy and regulation. In the past years WWF-NL has established partnerships with Rabobank and Robeco to test how nature can be integrated into decision-making processes within bank and asset managers. With Rabobank we will apply the TNFD framework to mitigate nature-related risks in supply chains of their clients. Last year Robeco launched a Biodiversity Equities fund, for which WWF acts as an advisor.

The Greening Finance NL Lead reports directly to Aaron Vermeulen, Head of Green Finance at WWF-NL.
